Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan has stressed the need for a coordinated and integrated information management among the two tiers of government in the State in order to widen the scope of information dissemination among the citizenry.

Bamigbetan, who disclosed this in Lagos on Monday at a meeting he held with Public Affairs Officers of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State, noted that a coordinated information management would further help bring governance closer to the people.

The Commissioner charged the Local Government Public Affairs Officers to key into the New Face of Lagos in the Cyber Space Project of the State Government by following all the official handles social media platforms of the State in order to expand the scope of government activities in the social media space.

He noted that it was an aberration in the present day society for any of the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the State not to have a functional website hence he advised them to impress it on their Chairman, the need to have a website for each local government.

While commending the few Local Government and Local Council Development Areas that have already established their presence in the cyber space, the Commissioner implored those that have not done so to immediately register their presence with a view to further publicizing and propagating the activities of their local government and local Council development Areas.

Earlier, Director, Social Media, Mr. Deji Balogun highlighted some of the new features of the State website as including a live chat platform that enables members of the public to engage officials of the State Government in live conversation between 8.00am and 5.00pm each work day, weather update section, traffic update and trending news crawl among other notable features of the new site.

In the same vein, the Director Public Affairs, Mrs. Toro Oladapo explained that two dedicated email addresses [email protected] and [email protected] that would allow for coordinated dissemination of news stories emanating from all the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the State havd been opened thus she charged the Public Affairs Officers to take advantage of these platforms.

Similarly, Director, Information Production, Mr. Abiola Fagunwa noted that the State now boast of an efficient and effective Public Address System that each of the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas could make use of in disseminating their policies and programmes to the grassroots.
