Fire wrecks havoc in Omu-Aran

Five shops were on Sunday razed in an early morning inferno in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara.

It was gathered that the fire was first noticed around 3:30 a.m. in one of the shops before spreading to other adjourning shops in the same bungalow building around Raba area in the metropolis.

The fire destroyed household items and business equipment such as refrigerator, computers, laminators, photocopiers and other properties.

A shop stocked with assorted foodstuff such as rice, maize, guinea corn, beans was also razed in the incident.

It took the intervention of the men of the Omu-Aran fire service to put out the fire after it had raged for over an hour.

No lives were lost from the incident.

Sympathisers were seen searching through the rubbles for the possible salvaging of affected goods when NAN visited the scene.

Mr Akanbi Samuel, Head, Omu-Aran Fire Service, said that the station was not contacted on time when the fire broke out, saying its quick response later saved the situation.

He enjoined the people of the community not to hesitate in contacting the station immediately there was any case of fire.

Alhaji Azeez Adekeye, the Balogun Adini of Omu-Aran, one of the victims of the fire outbreak, praised God that no casualty was recorded from the fire.

Adekeye, who claimed to have been notified of the incident on phone, described the outbreak as “an act of God”.
