The International Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria (ICCN) said it would continue to promote the actualisation of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.

Mrs Bunmi Osuntuyi, the ICCN Secretary said on Tuesday in Lagos that business contributions to the SDGs had provided the foundation and resources for the development of countries.

She said the ICC Business Charter for sustainable development held that the SDG would enable economic empowerment, poverty eradication, advance environmental stewardship, and contribute to dealing with the trans-boundary global challenges.

“Being the only private sector organisation with observer status at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is committed to championing the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“At the heart of economic growth are innovative, successful and responsible businesses operating within strong, forward-looking governance and policy frameworks.

“Implementing the SDGs will necessitate the establishment of a new alliance between business and governments to support the integration of sustainable development into the mainstream economy.

“This should include enhanced public-private partnerships at global and national levels and enhanced opportunities for engagement to better leverage business expertise and experience,” she said in a statement.

According to her, a key modus operandi to foster sustainable development and growth includes the adoption of new approaches promoting and facilitating innovative, multi-stakeholder co-operation.

She said that the ICCN Annual Dinner slated for Nov. 23 would celebrate the achievements and milestones of the chamber through the years, adding that it would champion the UN’s 2030 Agenda.

Osuntuyi said the Executive Vice President, Unilever Nigeria Plc, Mr Yaw Nsakor, would deliver the keynote address that would deepen SDGs discourse among Nigerian businesses.

ICC has a global network of over 6.5 million members in more than 120 countries and works to promote international trade and global approach to business regulations.
