Tricycle rider sent to prison for driving without licence

A Karmo Grade I Area Court on Monday sentenced a tricycle rider, Muhammed Adamu, to three weeks in prison for driving without a licence.

Adamu, 18, who resides around City Gate Ruga, Abuja, was arraigned on two counts of driving without a licence and causing obstruction on public highway to which he pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N1,000.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, had told the court that the convict, on Nov. 3, at about 5 p.m., without driver’s licence and consideration for other road users, caused obstruction on the high way.

The prosecution said that the alleged offence was committed on Obafemi Awolowo way by life camp junction, Abuja .

She added that Adamu in a tricycle with Reg.No. Abj 111 VD, on a public highway drove in a manner that was dangerous to other road user.

The offence contravened the provisions of section 29 (1) and 7(1) of the RTA.
