The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the Federal Government to explore means of solving the current strike of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

It would be recalled that ASUU national leadership declared a nationwide strike on Sunday after noting that the Federal Government failed to implement the agreement reached with the union several years running.

The plea was contained in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Mr Bestman Okereafor, on Friday in Enugu.

Okereafor also urged the Federal Government to look into the demands of some Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) chapters still on strike.

“NANS is finally calling on the Federal Government to look at means of resolving its differences with ASUU and COEASU members.

“We appeal that government go into resolving the issue urgently in the best interest of all Nigerian students.

“This should be done without further delay so that the ongoing strike will not affect the academic calendar of the institutions,’’ he said.

According to him, NANS is already widely consulting with major stakeholders in the education sector about our next step of action on this matter.

In a related development, Okereafor said that NANS said it would still hold its `National Day of Mourning’ in commemoration of the 2018 International Students’ Day.

The International Students’ Day is celebrated every Nov.17.
