Prof. Karen King-Aribisala, a Senior Lecturer, Department of English, University of Lagos has called on writers to promote peace and love among Nigerians.
King-Aribisala made the call at the 37th Annual International Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on Saturday in Lagos.
According to her, religious and cultural beliefs have affected the literary narratives, which has changed the perception of people across the world.
“As writers, how have we been able to use our works to keep the world safe from hate, killings and war.
“We are to sharpen the morals of the society by writing, so as to promote peace and love in the society.”
She added that it was important for writers to use their creativity in writing to bring about `Love’, because love fosters peace in the world.
King-Aribisala, speaking on the theme: `Mega-cities, Mega-Narratives’, added that: “Narrative and Literature refer to oral and written stories passed down through generations which include drama, poetry, novel, essay, the short stories and the daily stories we tell each other.”
The delegates comprise 300 authors from 27 states and the FCT.
The states are: Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Delta, Enugu, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Edo.
They are also from Gombe, Imo, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Rivers and Taraba as well as the FCT.
