Gang-up against Ambode thickens, as 36 Assembly lawmakers back Sanwo-Olu

Ahead of Sunday’s All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primaries in Lagos, the gang-up against incumbent Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has thickened as 36 of the 40 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly have endorsed the candidacy of Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

A statement issued by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Funmilayo Tejuoso, said the decision was taken at a Parliamentary meeting of the lawmakers which took place at Lateef Jakande auditorium of the House on Saturday, a day before the governorship primaries of the party.

The meeting was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Out of the 40 members of the House, 36 were present at the meeting and all of them endorsed the decision and duly signed the statement announcing the decision.

According to the lawmakers, they were in agreement with the leadership of the party and the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) which had earlier endorsed Sanwo-olu for the governorship ticket.

Earlier, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, another governorship aspirant on Saturday stepped down for Sanwo-Olu, who seemed to have been “anointed” by the party.

But Ambode is upbeat of his chances at Sunday’s primaries as he had declared that he was ready for the contest.

In the light of this, the governor’s posters had flooded every nooks and crannies of Lagos in readiness for the battle ahead.

Ambode had also recruited the services of 1,960 ward agents to ensure that no foul play was allowed to go unnoticed at the primaries on Sunday.

The governor said he needed a second term to consolidate on his achievements in office.
