Namibia on Wednesday, launched a policy aimed at setting guidelines for safer school environments amid concerning violence incidences in schools and homes.
The policy titled the National Safe School Framework identifies seven standards to help Namibian schools create favorable teaching and learning environments.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Education Minister Katrina Hans-Himarwa said the framework was meant to ensure that no child is denied the right to education due to unsafe school circumstances.
“Incidences of violence in our schools and in our nation is concerning and we all must stand together in order to defeat these acts,” Hans Himarwa said.
The launch comes within a week of UNICEF’s global launch of the #End Violence Against Children – Safe in Schools campaign which sheds light on and calls for global action to end violence in and around schools.
The campaign also highlights that globally, violence is one of the major contributing factors to non-enrolment and non-completion of schools.
