Jobless man remanded in prison for alleged robbery

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded an unemployed man, Success Fred, 20, in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly robbing a motorcyclist of his tricycle at gun point.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, did not accept the plea by the accused and remanded him in Kirikiri Prisons.

The accused, whose address was not given, is facing trial for alleged conspiracy and robbery.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offences were committed on Aug. 26 at Ijora area in Lagos.

Donny said that the accused and two others at large robbed the complainant, Mr Chinonso Ojoba of his tricycle valued at N220, 000 at gun point.

“The complainant was on his way when the accused and his other accomplice stopped and pretended as if they wanted to board a tricycle.

“They pointed the gun at him and collected the tricycle key and drove away,’’ he said.

Donny said that the accused were at the point of selling the tricycle when someone who knew about the stolen tricycle informed the police.

‘‘The other accomplice ran away while the accused was arrested,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 296 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Oct. 17 for mention.
