Sixteen teams in the Nationwide League One (NLO) will be battling for promotion play-off slots into the Nigeria National League (NNL) this weekend, an NLO official said on Monday.

14 teams in the NLO will also be struggling against relegation into Nationwide League One Division 2 during a relegation play-off this weekend as well.

A Director in the NLO Board, Ebere Amaraizu, in Enugu, said that the promotion and relegation play-offs for the 2017/2018 NLO League season would hold on Friday and Sunday.

Amaraizu said 16 teams for the promotion play-off had been paired in two at a time in a match.

He added that at the end of the day, eight teams would emerge and get promoted to the NNL for 2018/2019 football season.

Amaraizu said the 14 teams struggling against relegation had also been paired in two at a time.

According to him, in the end, the relegation play-off, seven of them that lost their matches will be relegated to Nationwide League One Division 2.

He noted that four stadia would host the tournament, including Ilorin Township Stadium; Rojenny Stadium, Oba; Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi and Jos Township Stadium.

“At Ilorin Township Stadium on Sept. 8, Destiny Boys FC will lock horns with 36 Lions FC; while Olisa FC will battle Green Beret FC for a promotion slot into the NNL.

“Later in Ilorin Township Stadium, MFM Feeders and Valiant FC will square up and Magate FC will tackle PSI International FC for who will not be relegated to the Division 2 cadre of the Nationwide League One.

“At Rojenny Stadium, Oba, on Sept. 9, Heartland Feeders will fight Ibom Youths FC for a slot in the promotion category,” he told NAN.

“Later in Rojenny Stadium, Rangers International Feeders and Abia Warriors Feeders will square up for who will not be relegated to the division 2 cadre, the same with Ika Rangers FC versus George Turnah FC.

“On Sept. 8, Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi will host Bida Lions FC versus KJ United FC; Rising Stars FC versus Kwara United FC and Lamray United versus Crime Busters FC in the promotion cadre.

“While later at Aper Aku Stadium, Niger Tornadoes Feeders shall square up with Bitiyong FC to know who will be relegated to NLO Division 2.”

Amaraizu said that Jos Township Stadium would on Sept. 9, see Rarara FC will lock horns with Kwakwansiya FC and Yarma-light FC will battle Doma United FC in the promotion cadres.

“Later in Jos Township Stadium, in the relegation cadre, Sky Limit FC versus Soccer Strikers FC and Baretta FC versus Flash Flamingoes will campaign to save themselves,’’ he said.
