Former Ogun State Deputy Governor, Prince Olusegun Adesegun has joined the governorship race in Ogun State thereby bringing the total number of aspirants to 18 under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
A total of 28 aspirants are contesting for the position in the state.
Adesegun was the Deputy to Governor Ibikunle Amosun during his first term between 2011 and 2015 but resigned at the end of the tenure.
Adesegun who disclosed his intention in Abeokuta promised to take governance in the state higher, if elected.
He stated that he started his political career in 1976 while a student at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University.
“I also played active politics during the first Republic.
“I was also a two term Commissioner of Works and Housing in the State under the former governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, so I have enough political experience to provide quality governance”.
As a Governor, Adesegun said he would focus on massive investment on agriculture ”by providing rural infrastructure, land and equipment to increase productivity.
“I will encourage investment in infrastructure to promote manufacturing through agro-based industries and expand trade within and outside Nigeria.
“Government must be restructured to be more efficient, through adequately compensated public service. My belief in the capacity and efficiency of Ogun State Civil Service as one of the best in Nigeria for service delivery is unshakable and it must be encouraged.”
Reminded that the party had allegedly zoned its candidate to the Ogun West Senatorial District, Adesegun, who is from the East Senatorial District said the allegation was a “plea and not directive” adding that the party’s constitution allows all party faithful to contest.
