The Jagunmolu of Somolu Bariga, Oba Gbolahan Timson has charged politicians and clerics to always keep their covenants with the people.
Oba Timson gave the advice while speaking with newsmen in his palace on this year’s eid-el-kabir celebration.
The Bariga monarch described the Ileya festival as very significant in many ways.
“As a member of the Muslim community, eid-el-kabir reminds you on the need to keep your words, promises to God and mankind.
”Whatever promises or pledges you have made fufill it, whatever you are in government or outside the government, if you have made a pledge, please fufill it. Don’t break your promise to the people.
“The eid-el-kabir festival that we are celebrating today is a covenant between Prophet Ibrahim and God. God said unto him, ‘you have passed, don’t worry , I will provide you a ram instead of killing your son. Since you have made every attempt to sacrifice your son for me. I have seen the genuiness of your heart and I have taken it as if you have done it, so go and sacrifice that ram instead of your son.
“Maybe some of us would not have been alive today, we would have been sacrificed, but because of the covenant.
“God is a covenant keeping God, that is what Allah is to Prophet Ibrahim.
”Thank God, we are not killing out Children for sacrifice. If God wants it who are we not to do so, if he want us dead who are we to remain alive. But he said no, I have created you, I have given you what you want and I will make the place a habitable place for you except you live above your income, you live above what God created you for, that is when you have cause to deny it. If not, it is a time to rejoice, thank God and live well.
”The significant of today’s eid-el-kabir is that we should learn to kee our promises,” he concluded.
