The Plateau House of Assembly will soon enact a law to prohibit the grabbing of its lands by foreigners, its Speaker, Mr. Joshua Madaki, said on Friday in Jos.

Madaki, who spoke when he hosted the Forum of Non-indigenes resident in Jos South Local Government, said that the state would no longer tolerate attempts by strangers to take over lands from the original owners.

“The House of Assembly will not fold its arms and watch mischief makers throw the state into chaos and acrimony.

“Plateau residents enjoyed peace for decades until it opened its doors to people out to cause confusion. As lawmakers, we won’t allow these foreigners to take over our land.

“We shall come up with a legislation that will forbid such moves; we shall vehemently reject land grabbing and shall enact a stiff law to criminalize it,” he said.

The Speaker urged visitors to the state to remain peaceful and emphasized the need to embrace and support peace initiatives by the government.

Earlier, chairman of the Forum, Mr. Emmanuel Omaji, had said that the visit was to pledge the group’s support for Madaki’s leadership.
