The Lagos State Government on Monday flagged off the 2018 edition of the Head of Service, HOS Cup football tournament.

The event was flagged off by the HOS, Folasade Adesoye at the Lagos State Rehabilitation Centre, Isheri where staff of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, slugged it out with staff of Bariga Local Council Development Area, LCDA.

This year’s edition is the 13th in the series. Winners in the male and female category will win trophies and other gift items.

Flagging off the competition, Adesoye said the aim of the competition was to give civil servants sense of belonging and to keep them fit physically to be able to carry out their work effectively.

She said those who were taking part in the competition had been certified fit medically and that staff from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, who registered were taking part in the competition.

The HOS also said the competition would help to promote comradeship among the various government bodies and foster good relationship as well as bring about healthy competition.

She stated that the competition was taking place simultaneously in four different centres, which included Isheri Rehabilitation Centre; Opebi, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH and Agidingbi Grammar School.

Folasade added that talents would also be selected to represent Lagos at the State level, saying that overtime, the competition had been very competitive.

Director General, Lagos Sports Commission, Tunde Bank-Anthony said in the future, other sports, such as swimming and table tennis would be introduced to the competition.

He added that there was the possibility of introducing local sports, such as ayo and others to the competition to make it diversified.
