Aisha Al-Hassan: dies in Cairo

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Al-Hassan has debunked rumours that she was planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking with newsmen in Agidingbi, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria at the end of a 5-day National Council meeting on Women Affairs and Social Development, Al-Hassan said she would be re-contesting the Governorship seat of Taraba State in 2019 on the platform of the party.

The Minister, who pointed out that the Buhari administration had bettered the lot of women through many of its gender-based initiatives said efforts were also ongoing to implement more programmes for the benefit of the grassroots.

She said tremendous progress had been recorded in the inclusion of women in politics in the last few years, while urging women not to be afraid to contest for political offices.

The Minister stated that the time had come for more women to take advantage of the affirmative action already secured for them and stand for elective offices rather than waiting for appointments.

However, delegates from the 36 States of the Federation and Abuja attended the Regular National Council Meeting on Women affairs and Social Development which was the 18th edition.
