CVR: APC Lagos women wing to embark on house-to-house sensitisation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Women Wing on Thursday said it would embark on house-to-house sensitisation in the state on the importance of more residents registering to vote before Aug. 17, and collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Mrs Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, APC Women Leader, made the disclosure at the Inaugural Thanksgiving Service of APC Women wing, tagged: ‘APC Women – A New Dawn’, held at the party Secretariat, ACME Road.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on July 6 that it would suspend the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on Aug. 17, until after the 2019 general elections.

The 2019 general elections are scheduled to hold Feb. 16, 2019 and March 2, 2019.

”We shall go from home-to-home to educate the residents about their civic duties and responsibilities – registration and collection of PVC before Aug. 17, as well as to exercise their voting rights in 2019, ” Okoya-Thomas said.

She called for peace and unity among women to deliver more than 2 million votes for the party in 2019 elections.

The women leader commended Sen. Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of APC, for his sterling efforts towards peace, unity and progress of the party.

Okoya-Thomas, who noted that the state government had exceeded 30 per cent affirmative action for women, urged females to participate more in politics and recruit their children also.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Idiat Adebule, commended the new party executive for starting their operations with prayers, saying that with God all things are possible and success is guaranteed.

Adebule urged women and other party members to support the executive as they take the party to greater heights.

She also urged women not to neglect the running of their homes and upbringing of their children as they participate in politics.

Mrs Bolanle Ambode, the Wife of the Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, who was represented by Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, commended Okoya-Thomas for starting with God, stressing that God will stand by her.

Tinubu-Ojo assured the women leaders of APC that market women would support the dreams and aspirations of the party.

In his remarks, Mr Tunde Balogun, Chairman of APC, Lagos State, who appreciated women’s support, said ” No party is as big as APC and the party will overcome all its challenges”.

Balogun, however, charged APC women to persuade more women to join the party and register for 2019 elections before the exercise would end in August.

Earlier in her Christian sermon, Pastor Kemi Onalaja, who said that no home, family and society would function without women, urged them to always pray for the state.

Also, in an Islamic sermon, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Alayaki led prayers for the state and urged residents to seek help from God.

The event brought together women leaders across the 57 council areas and other party stalwarts and members.
