Plateau Govt creates makeshift clinics in IDPs camps

The Plateau Government, through the Ministry of Health, has created makeshift clinics in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Kunden Deyin, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos, that the makeshift clinics were created to cater for the health needs of the IDPs.

He said that cases that could not be handled in the clinics would be referred to the state’s Specialist Hospital for further evaluation.

Deyin explained that the ministry had started a need assessment of those on routine drugs, especially the elderly persons in the camps who were on certain types of drugs such as diabetes and hypertensive drugs.

He said that the assessment would enable the state government to known the number of persons on the various drugs, so that such drugs could be provided and dispensed to such persons in the various camps.

The commissioner said that the ministry was working with the state’s Ministry of Water Resources to ensure that potable water was provided in the camps to help forestall outbreak of water borne and gastrointestinal diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea.

According to him, the ministry is also working with the Ministry of Environment to ensure that there is proper sanitation in the camps.

He noted that the Ministry of Environment had provided latrines in the various camps.

Gunmen on June 24 attacked Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Jos South local government areas of Plateau and
killed many people, destroyed properties and displaced others, sending the displaced to take refuge in camps created by the state government.
