Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad, FSARS attached to the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos have arrested the fleeing alleged buyer of the stolen Toyota Corolla belonging to a Chief Magistrate, Folashade Oshin in Kano State.

The car, with registration No. SMK 324 BJ valued at N5m was allegedly stolen by her driver, Timothy Yashim, 38 on 10 March, 2018 in Lagos and driven to Kano State with the connivance of his two accomplices and sold off for N600,000 to the alleged buyer, Alhaji Garuba Tijani.

The feat, according to a Police source was achieved by the Commissioner of Police, CP in charge of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos, Mr Edgal Imohimi who directed a team led by Inspector Adigun Abolarin to fish out the suspects and recover the stolen vehicle following a complaint by the owner.

Other suspects arrested for allegedly conniving with the driver to perpetrate the alleged crime were Hammed Yerima and Daniel Yahaya.

The driver and his accomplices had been charged to court for stealing.

The incident, according to the police, occurred on 10 March, 2018 in Lagos when the driver drove the car out from his employer’s residence and drove it with his accomplices to Kano State to sell it for N600,000.

Nemesis, however, caught up with the driver when his employer reported the car theft to Imohimi who directed a team led by Inspector Adigun Abolarin to arrest the driver and recover the stolen car.

However, the cay buyer, Tijani was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a one count charge of receiving and buying a stolen Toyota Corolla Car valued N5m for N600,000.

Police Counsel, Frsnsisca Job said the offence Tijani committed was punishable under section 328(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Tijani pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime and Magistrate B.I Bakare granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must deposit the sum of N30,000 in the Court Registrar’s account.

Bakare adjourned the case until 17, July, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Prison till he perfected the bail conditions.
