Group canvasses more women participation in politics

A group, operating under the auspices of Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko Vanguard has urged women to take advantage of the current level of women emaciation initiatives globally and locally to be more active in politics.

The Lagos State Women Leader of the group, Mrs Otufowora Adebukola who stated this stressed that women should be involved in governance and politics, by seeking political position.

She charged them to take advantage of different policies of government aimed at stopping women trafficking and child abuse.

Adebukola while speaking at the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos State Secretariat, Agege, Lagos added that more women must be given opportunity to be involved in policy making process to engender development.

The Women Leader said: “Women are a very important part of our society and no society can thrive without making enduring policies concerning them in its programme. The Lagos State government recognises it, and this explains why the welfare of women and children are one the critical policy focus of the present administration in the state.

“The government has been focused and proactive through deliberate policies and sustained efforts to ensure fairness, equality and full rights of women and the girl child. Please go and collect your PVC,’’ she advised.

Adebukola added that, “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration will continue to take actions and support all programmes, policies and initiatives meant to enhance gender parity, put an end to all forms of discrimination against women and ultimately guarantee the rights and privileges of women in Lagos State.”

Also speaking, the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, who welcomed the Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko Vanguard, Lagos State Woman Leader, Adebukola to their secretariat said the group’s efforts in canvassing for five million votes for Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode’s re-election in 2019 gubernatorial election to appreciate his preforms in Lagos state is highly commendable.

The state coordinator of Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko Vanguard, Seyi Bamigbade urged the residents to go and collect their PVCs, pointing out that there were still about 1.4 million cards yet to be collected by voters in Lagos State.

“kindly pick up your PVCs for the benefits of the younger generation, many people are yet pick up their cards despite our awareness campaign,” he said.
