The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir has ordered districts and village heads under his domain to support the ongoing cattle routes re-demarcation to improve farmers/herders relationship in the state.

“The traditional rulers should give the necessary cooperation to the committee to ensure improvement in farmers/herdsmen relationship,’’ Kabir said at the flag off of the re-demarcation of the routes in Jibiya Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Tuesday.

The monarch was represented by a councilor in the Katsina Emirate, Alhaji Aminu Mamman.

“The re-demarcation of cattle routes when completed will greatly reduce farmers/herdsmen clashes in the state.

“The committee is in dare need of support from traditional rulers especially at the grassroots to ensure successful execution of its job.

“I am calling on traditional and religious leaders to educate their people on the dangers associated with cattle routes encroachment as it has been the major source of clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the state,’’ Kabir said.

Earlier speaking, the state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders of Nigeria, Alhaji Mannir Attiku, said the state is currently hosting about 3,700 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the neighbouring Zamfara.

Attiku said majority IDPs were women and children who were running from the massive killings in the state.

“They are our Fulani brothers escaping from the unnecessary killings in Zamfara which started as farmers/herders clash,’’ he said.

He commended the Katsina state government for inaugurating a farmers/herdsmen reconciliation committee which brought peace to the state.
