A new Director has been deployed to the Citizens’ Mediation Centre by the Ministry of Justice.

She is Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, a legal practitioner with many years of experience.

Rotimi, until her present deployment to the Centre was director,  Legal in the Ministries of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and Youth, Sports and Social Development.

Rotimi attended the Bournemouth University Dorset England (formerly Dorset Institute of Higher Education) in 1987 where she obtained a degree in Law and Politics and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989.

Her work experience as a Lawyer spans over 29 years. She started her early career with Deji Sasegbon Law firm and her work experience at the Lagos State Ministry of Justice for over 25years.

Rotimi has worked in different departments in the Ministry of Justice as a State having been employed as a State Counsel on Grade Level 9, where she later rose to the position of an Assistant Director at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and Assistant Director of the Directorate of Citizens Rights. She also worked as the Head of Unit, Human Rights Department.

She also served as the Director of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, a position she held for eight years, where she passionately defended the rights of the indigent residents of Lagos State.

Rotimi is a member of several local and international institutions among which are; Association of Corporate Governance Professionals of Nigeria (MACGPN), Accredited Mediator (CEDR) 2010; Fellow, Institute of Chartered Mediators & Conciliators (FICMC); Lagos State Technical working committee on Child Protection Information Management; Domestic and Sexual Violence Team of Lagos State (DSVRT) and a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria (FCIArb).

She is a Mediator at the Lagos Multi Door Court (LMDC), the Institute of Chartered Arbitrators and also a Faculty Member. Due to her commitment, she was appointed a Member of the Curriculum Committee, and an examiner.

Within her years of experience, Mrs. Rotimi has successfully resolved on behalf of Lagos State. These  include, Lagos State Government and Aguiyi Ironsi International Market Matori; Lagos State Government, Hi-Tec, NNPC and Victims of Ijegun Pipeline Explosion; The Shop Owners And Developers of Iya Mogaji Ebute-Ero Market; and the case of the Photo-Journalists and TOS Funerals Limited.

She also has a Post Graduate degree in Forensic Science from the Lagos State University and also from the School of Natural Resources, University Of Nebraska Lincoln, USA, where she was certified in Crime Scene Investigation, Crime Scene Processing, Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Photography, Finger Printing and DNA Profiling. An experience she had brought to bear when she was drafted as a Forensic and DNA expert by the Lagos State Government to assist in the identification and documentation process of the victims of the ill-fated DANA plane crash. Her experience in Forensic was again felt when she designed the Sexual Assault Rape KIT, which is currently being used at Primary Health Centers (PHC) across Lagos State to collect samples from victims of sexual assaults.

Mrs. Rotimi is a member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Bar Association, International Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA), American Society of Trace Evidence Examiners (ASTEE) and the International Bar Association (IBA).

She has also served as a member of several committees and has served on a number of Personnel Management Boards.

She is married with children.

Mrs. Omotola Rotimi takes over from Mrs. Oluwatoyin Odusanya who was recently redeployed as Director, legal in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development.
