The Jigawa Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has apprehended three persons suspected of stealing armoured and transmission cables.

Spokesman of the Corps in the state, Adamu Shehu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday, that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday in Babura and Baure Local Government Areas of Jigawa and Katsina states.

He said that the cables belonged to Jigawa Government and Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

The spokesman explained that the suspects were arrested after personnel of the corps received complaints from officials of the Works Department in Babura.

He said that the suspects (names with held), aged between 25 and 37, specialised in removing armoured and transmission cables from streetlights.

Shehu said that the suspects confessed to have committed the offence twice and had sold same at N9,500 and N7,500 to a scrap materials vendor.

“At the time of their arrest, bunches of neatly cut and well arranged power transmission cables were recovered,” he said.

The spokesman added that the suspects would be charged to court after conclusion of investigation.

Shehu urged residents to give all necessary support and cooperation to the corps in order to safeguard government’s installations in their localities.
