The Apapa Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said it generated total revenue of N28.41 billion in April 2018 compared to N25.18 billion in the same period in 2017.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Nkeiruka Nwala, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

According to Nwala, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Jibril Musa, has re-enforced all strategies to improve the daily revenue collection.

She said the CAC believed in value addition, and that customs officers at the command engaged in thorough examination ensuring that the value of consignments were appropriately captured.

“The Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System II (NICIS II), which had been in operation in Apapa since April 2018, will block all revenue leakages.

“The full implementation of NICIS ll had improved the command’s revenue collection and also reduced human interface during cargo clearance.

“There was a particular day the command generated N4 billion due to the implementation of NICIS,” Nwalla said.

She said although few stakeholders were trying to fully understand the NICIS ll, the command would continue to enlighten stakeholders on the platform to reduce the time spent on cargo clearance.

Nwalla said the command would work round the clock to ensure it surpassed its annual revenue target of N426 billion for 2018.
