The Rivers State Police Command said it will soon start the forceful retrieval of illegal arms in the hands of unauthorised persons as the 21 days period for voluntary surrender of such arms as directed by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, elapses in a week’s time.

Spokesman of the Rivers Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, while giving update of the arms recovery exercise started a month ago, said the ultimatum given for the surrender of illegal arms would elapse soon.

Omoni, who spoke in a telephone interview said the command would spare no effort in ensuring that those still in possession of illegal arms were brought to book.

“After period given for the voluntary surrender of illegal arms, we are mandated to forcefully retrieve the illegal arms not minding whose ox is gored,”Omoni warned.

He announced that the Special task force set up by the Inspector General of Police on illegal arms recovery had so far toured 22 out of the 23 local government areas.
