The President of Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Samuel Ocheho on Wednesday identified training of coaches as a tool to re position handball in Nigeria.

Ocheho told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja while inspecting the Abuja National Stadium gymnasium, the venue for the 2-day training workshop for handball coaches in Nigeria.

The president said that about 40 to 45 coaches were expected to participate in the training, slated for April 25 to April 26 at the Abuja National Stadium gymnasium.

He said the coaches were drawn from the 36 states and FCT as well as military and para-military organisations.

According to him, the programme tag, ‘’Train the Trainer’’, is organised by the Geogojih Foundation in conjunction with Mega Veterans Handball Abuja and Handball Federation of Nigeria.

“One of the things we identify is the need to train our trainers. I am talking about getting the technical side of the game right.

“We feel it is very important if handball must go forward in Nigeria,’’ he said.

Ocheho said if the coaches were up to date with current techniques, they would be able to impact on the players.

“We take training of our trainers very seriously and we are starting with this and gradually, take it to the next level.

“The training, we believe, is the beginning of greater things to come and the beginning of new things to come for handball.’’
