Mr Dahunsi Mohammed, the Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna State, has appealed to the State Government to build and furnish additional hostel and staff quarters at the state’s permanent orientation camp.

The Coordinator made the call at the swearing-in ceremony of 2,237 2018 batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to the state on Monday in Kaduna.

He commended Gov. Nasir El-Rufai, for the completion of the first phase of the renovation work at the camp, which has made the orientation camp more conducive.

He said the call was necessary as it would help the state to have more corps members deployed to it by the scheme, thereby having more essential staff,  like medical doctors in its workforce across the state, to address the inadequacy in its medical sector in the interest of the people in the state.

“We hope the second phase of the renovation work, which is expected to take care of the parade ground pavilion, existing male hostels and apartments for camp officials will commence as soon as possible.

“Additional hostel blocks will no doubt help us to receive the full complement of corps members expected to serve in the state,” he said.

Responding during an interview with newsmen, Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Culture, Daniel Dan-Auta, who represented Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai, promised that the state would capture additional facilities in the third phase of the camp renovation.

He restated the commitment of his administration to strive to make NYSC function to capacity, as a result of values it is adding to the economy of the state.

“If you look around, you can see that we have just finished the first phase of the general renovation of the camp.

“We are already in the second phase, which includes the parade ground, female hostel and staff quarters. We only had itches with the contractor and that will be sorted out.

“Due to our seriousness in upgrading the facilities here, NYSC headquarters has doubled the number of corps members to be deployed to Kaduna State.

“We are expanding the permanent site in the third phase to accommodate up to 3,000 corps members, so we can have more of the essential workers you talked about,” he explained.

Orientation is the first of the four cardinal points of NYSC, where corps members are tutored about the task ahead under maximum regimentation within 21 days.
