American Embassy Arrests Fake FRSC Official

Vigilant officials of the United States of America Consulate General Office in Victoria Island, Lagos have nabbed a man, Daramola Johnson, 58, who claimed to be an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, with fake documents.

A Police source said that following the incident, the embassy officials informed the Commissioner of Police, CP in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit, PSFU, Ikoyi, Lagos, Ibrahim Lamorde about the development who deployed a team led by ASP Lawal Audu to the embassy to arrest the suspect.

The Police source said that trouble started for Johnson when he went to the Unites States Consulate General Office, Victoria Island to summit documents to the officials to obtain United States Non-immigrant Visa and claimed that he was an official of Federal Road Safety Corps.

Nemesis, however, caught up with him when the officials, after perusing the documents discovered that they were fake and that his claim that he was an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps was also fake and they invited the police to arrest him.

Johnson was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on one-count charge of felony to wit, forging documents and impersonating FRSC officials with intent to obtain United States Non-immigrant Visa.

Police Counsel, Wewe Adegbayi informed the court that the accused committed the alleged crime on 11 April, 2018 at the United States Consulate General office at 2, Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Adegbayi told the court that the accused lied to the US Embassy officials that he was an official of the FRSC with the intent to obtain United States Non-immigrant Visa before he was arrested.

He said the offence the accused committed was punishable under section 380 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate B.I Bakare granted him bail in the sum of N1m with one surety in like sum.

Bakare adjourned the case till 7 May, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at Ikoyi Prison till he fulfilled the bail conditions.
