A 28-year old businessman, Francis Terhemba, was on Monday remanded in prison by a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court over alleged culpable homicide.

Terhemba, a resident of Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue, is facing a one- count charge of culpable homicide.

The Magistrate, Mrs Lillian Tsumba, who refused to take the plea of the accused for lack of jurisdiction, ordered his remand until the next adjourned date of May 10.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Michael Iorundu, had told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Vandeikya to the State CID in Makurdi via a letter dated Feb. 28 for investigation.

He said that the letter stated that one Pastor Terzungwe Iorlumun of Living Faith Church, Vandeikya, had reported the matter at the Vandeikya Police Station on Feb 22.

According to the letter, Iorlumun told the police that his 32-year-old sister, Comfort Iorlumun, went out with the accused the previous day and never returned home.

The clergyman further stated in the letter that upon a search for his sister, her corpse was found on the ground behind Federal Government College, Vandeikya.

The Prosecutor told the court that the accused was subsequently arrested in connection with the death, adding that he had confessed to committing the crime.

Terhemba said that the offence contravened Section 222 of the Penal Code of Benue, 2004.

He, however, said that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked the court for another date for mention.
