Workers of Daura Local Government in Katsina State have commended the state government for paying special attention to their welfare, promising to reciprocate the gesture through effective service delivery.

The workers spoke through Habibu Bala, Chairman of the area’s chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), on Friday in Daura.

“The state government has done very well; it has released outstanding promotion, paid workers and pensioners’ entitlements, and also ensured that deserving workers get promoted,” Bala said.

He disclosed that outstanding promotions for three years – 2014, 2015 and 2016 – had been released, while the payment of pension and gratuities to retired civil servants and those who died while in active service had been regular.

“I am proud to tell you that all local government staff, who retired between March 2017 and December 2017 have been paid their gratuity; they have also started enjoying their monthly pension,” he said.

According to him, 170 staff of Daura Local Government are currently undergoing the 2017 promotion interview.

Bala promised to reciprocate the gesture through hard work, dedication and commitment to effective service delivery and warned the local government workers against truancy and laziness.

“The government has done too much and we must reciprocate that gesture by being effective; the union will not spare any staff who deliberately violates the rules and code of conduct,” he said.

720 staff of the local government were promoted between 2014 and 2016.
