Kano/Jigawa Customs command generates N4.3 billion in 3 months

The Kano /Jigawa Customs Area Command has generated N4.3 billion as revenue from January to March this year.

The command’s Comptroller, Mr Abbas Kassim disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Kano on Friday on the activities of the Command within the first quater of the year.

He said the command had exceeded the N3.6 billion revenue target given to it by N609.1 million.

“We were given a target of N3.6 billion for the first quarter but we were able to collect N4.3 billion within the period under review,” he said.

According to him, the command had also made 41 seizures of contraband items with duty paid value of over N170 million.

He said the seized contraband items included rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti and macaroni, sugar, second hand clothes and used vehicles.

Kassim said the command had on Sunday, April 1 made seizure of various quantities of contraband items in Jigawa and Kano states.

He said the items included 500 bags of rice which was concealed in bags of beans and 20 bales of second hand clothes seized in Kano metropolis.

“Some of the items were intercepted at Kantakara, a border village in Maigatari/Niger Republic border and we are still trying to calculate the duty paid value of the items, “Kassim said.

He said four suspects were arrested in connection with the seized items while investigation was still ongoing with a view to apprehending the other fleeing suspects.
