The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday paraded 27 crime suspects, 1,179 firearms and 2,266 ammunition recovered from criminals in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu disclosed during the parade held in Abeokuta, the state capital, that the arms and ammunition were those recovered from suspects between February last year and March this year.

The police boss identified one of the suspects as Usman, a member of a gang of kidnappers who engaged men of FSARS in gun battle at Bayeruwa, Fidiwo village along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway last week. During the encounter, six members of the gang were killed.

He said Usman was caught at the hideout of the gang in a forest where the battle took place. Items recovered from him include two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one locally made double barrel pistol, 35 rounds of live cartridges (large), six rounds of small size live cartridges, two cutlasses and assorted charms.

Other suspects paraded were Ganiyu Jimoh, Al-Amin Damilola, Lekan Taiwo, Olasode Waliyi, Tosin Shobowale, Muse Karounwi, Taiwo Soyinka, Daniel Batholomew and Abduljelili Tajudeen.

Iliyasu promised to do all in his powers to ensure that the state is crime-free.
