The Lagos State Government has begun the sensitisation of 25,000 undergraduates for the graduate employment training programme, Ready. Set. Work, RSW.
The government said it was determined to make graduates in Lagos higher institution employable.
Speaking at the commencement of the sensitization programme for the final-year students held at the Lagos State University, LASU, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh stated that the current administration decided to upscale the scheme to accommodate 25, 000 students, higher than 12, 000 trained in 2017.
He said that the inclusion of the students and the new schools was in line with the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s commitment to accommodate every graduate being prepared for the world of work as an employer of labour or a value-adding employee.
“You can change your own life because the Ready. Set. Work scheme offers you a lot of opportunity. There is a case of visually impaired who participated in the programme. Today, she has been employed by one of the firms.
“This programme is a demonstration of our administration’s commitment to ensure that our graduates meet the need of the labour market. I can assure you your life will never remain the same after the 13 weeks of the training.
“During the training, attendance is a must and you must be seated by 8:45am. At least you must attend the class for a minimum of 11 weeks, otherwise, you can’t proceed with your colleagues. All these are to prepare you for the challenges of labour market,” Bank-Olemoh said.
Vice-Chancellor, LASU, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, said that findings had revealed that the world would become so sophisticated that in the nearest future most graduates would be able to fit into the labour markets due to dearth of prerequisite skills.
He expressed joy that the state government had begun fixing the missing link through the Ready.Set. Work Scheme with the empowerment of the graduates.
