The Kano State Government has pledged to develop a strategic plan for strengthening maternal health and routine immunisation in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Getso, said this at the opening of a two-day training on Wednesday in Kano.

The commissioner who was represented by the Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr Nasiru Mahmud, said the meeting was vital.

“ We organised this training session to utilise the findings of research conducted by the Department of Public Health and Disease Control of Bayero University, Kano.

“We feel that the collaboration with the research bodies will strengthen the provision of healthcare services in the state,’’ according to him.

Getso underscored the need for stakeholders to find the reason why routine immunisation has been partially accepted.

He expressed optimism that the technical training with all stakeholders would be a platform for building a plan for action in improving maternal health and routine immunisation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Kano government is moving to create a plan for improving routine immunisation and maternal health in the state.
