Authorities in Ghana and Kenya are seeking collaboration with the Visionscape Group to handle their waste management and electricity generation.

According to a source, a series of meetings have already been held between a high profile delegation from Ghana led by the country’s Minister for Environment and the Visionscape team in Lagos and Dubai.

It was gathered that the Ghanaian delegation said they were impressed by the global pedigree of Visionscape and that they would like the company to provide an end to end solution in the management of their waste.

The Ghanaian team, it was further gathered, were also delighted to see the array of brand new compactors and other facilities Visionscape was bringing into Lagos for its operation.

Although Visionscape officials would not officially confirm this, the source said Visionscape and Ghana have signed an agreement on waste management.

It was further gathered that a presentation was made on behalf Visionscape by a company identified as GIL Capital to the Governor of Nairobi City County in Kenya.

A source said the Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, was so impressed with the presentation that he wrote a letter to Visionscape inviting the organisation to make a detailed presentation on the prospective waste management approach that could assist his County to have a one-stop shop management solution.

It was learnt that the presentation is expected to include how to generate electricity from a garbage dumpsite.

Visionscape Group, an environmental utility group of companies already has operations in Dubai, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Lagos, Nigeria.

In a contract the company signed with the Lagos State Government, Visionscape was saddled with the responsibility of residential collection of waste. Private Sector Participant (PSP) Operators were given the responsibility for evacuation of waste generated from commercial areas.

The PSPs who also wanted to retain residential collection of waste, however, withdrew their services in protest and went to court. Of recent, all the parties in the crisis have made efforts towards its amicable resolution with the courts giving all the parties concerned a two-week ultimatum to resolve the issues last week.
