President Buhari commended for take-off of Maritime University

The Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the long awaited take-off of academic activities at the Nigerian Maritime University (NMU) in Delta.

Mr Sheriff Mulade, the group National Coordinator, gave the commendation in a statement on Monday in Warri.

The university, a specialised institution, is located in Okerenkoko, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta.

Mulade also lauded the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, for the recent successful recruitment interview of about 1,300 prospective academic staff shortlisted from over six thousand applications.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ongoebi Maureen Etebu, had on Saturday, said that academic activities would commence in mid-April.

He said that the NMU would galvanise development in the Niger Delta region and also help in curbing youth restiveness.

Mulade said: “I want to commend President Buhari for the approval given for the take-off of academic activities in the NMU in Okerenkoko.

“People of the region are excited about this development and are pleased with the president.

“I also want to commend Adamu, the Minister of Education, for setting up a committee to facilitate the take-off of the academic session at the university.”
