The Adamawa Government on Tuesday solicited the support of the Nigerian Law School (NLS) for the establishment of a law faculty in Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi.

The Governor of the state, Mohammed Bindow, made the appeal when the NLS’s management led by the Director General, Prof. Isa Ciroma, paid him a courtesy call in Yola.

“Adamawa state as one of the major stakeholders in Nigerian Law School has contributed a lot to its growth.

“We equally need your assistance for the introduction of a faculty of law in our state university,” Bindow said.

The NLS, which was established in Lagos in 1962 and was relocated to Abuja in December 1997, has a multi-campus structure with other campuses in Lagos, Enugu, Kano, Yola and Yenagoa.

The governor said that the existence of an NLS campus in Yola would be an impetus for a rich and sustainable faculty of law in the state university.

The governor pledged to continue to support the Yola campus of the institution.

“All your demands are doable. We will look into your request and if possible collaborate with the state legislators to either put it in our supplementary budget or do virement,” the governor said.

Bindow further said that the law school would be used by the state government as a resource centre for judicial reforms in the state.

Earlier, Prof. Ciroma, had requested the state government to build a hostel in the Yola campus of the school.

The director general said that the provision of more hostels in the campus would increase the quota of Adamawa candidates’ enrolment in the school.

He said that the gesture would also create employment and boost economic activities in the state.

He commended the efforts of the governor in the area of infrastructure development and for successful hosting of an anti-corruption summit.
