Estate Manager arraigned in court for defrauding employer N5m

A 32-year old Deputy Facility Manager with Aircom Nigeria Ltd, the managers of Crown Well Court Estate, Lekki, Lagos, Olabode Oluwashayo has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing employer’s N5m.

A Police source said that the Female Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ilasan Division, Lekki, Lagos, SP Onyinye Onwuemegbu ordered the arrest of the accused following a complaint by the Management of Aircom Nigeria Ltd.

The accused was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a count charge of felony to wit, stealing.

Police counsel, Chinedu Njoku informed the court in charge No B/15/2018 that the accused committed the offence between 29 January, 2016 and 12 February, 2018.

Njpku told the court that the accused, as the Deputy Facility Manager with Aircom Nigeria Ltd, the managers of Crown Well Court Estate betrayed the trust reposed in him by his employer and defrauded his employer of the sum of N5m by given out his personal bank account to the tenants in the estate to be paying their rent into it instead of the account of his employer.

He said that the management of Aircom Nigeria Ltd uncovered the fraud when they audited their accounts.

Njoku added that the offence the accused committed was punishable under section 287 (7) of the Criminal Laws of Logos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and Chief Magistrate, Folashade Botoku granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Botoku adjourned the case till 26 March, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi prison till he fulfilled the bail conditions.
