Russia considers statements that Israel should be destroyed inadmissible, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday.

“We have repeatedly said that we do not accept the statement that Israel, as a Zionist entity, must be destroyed, razed to the ground.

“I think this is absolutely the wrong way to promote our own interests.

“Similarly, we do not agree with attempts to address any regional problem through the prism of the objective to fight against Iran,” Lavrov said at the conference “Russia in the Middle East: playing on all fields” in Moscow.

Lavrov also said that the U.S. decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is largely motivated by anti-Iranian bias, it risks to further aggravate the situation in the region.

“We do not agree with attempts that are being made to address any regional problem through the prism of the objective of fighting Iran.

“It is observed in Syria, Yemen and even the latest developments around the Palestinian issue, including Washington’s announcement of its decision to recognise Jerusalem as exclusively Israel’s capital – it is largely motivated by the same anti-Iranian bias…

“I believe, that both these factors risk to aggravate the situation in the region, which is already very, very deplorable,” Lavrov said.
