Lawyer marks 35 years with book launch, lecture

Nigerian senior lawyers led by the first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Mrs Folake Solanke will on Thursday gather at the MUSON Centre, Lagos to celebrate one of their own, Mr Dele Adesina SAN as he marks 35 years of his being called to the Nigerian Bar.

A lecture and a book presentation have been scheduled to mark the day.

In a statement from his law firm, Dele Adesina and co., Adesina was called to the bar 35 years ago, established his law firm 25 years ago, and attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria 10 years ago.

An array of leading legal practitioners is expected to engage in the activities marking the day.

Top on the list is Prof Konyinsola Ajayi SAN who will deliver a lecture titled: “Drop the hook: Do not be afraid”. Prof Ajayi chaired the 2017 annual general conference of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) which has been described as the most successful NBA conference in recent times.

He is also a minister of the gospel as he pastors a Methodist Church in Banana Island, Lagos.

“The objective of this lecture is to build hope in the young and vibrant legal practitioners who we recognize are the future leaders of the profession. Although the future appears uncertain and challenging in view of the present economic and other conditions, that, they can still make it in the profession”, the firm stated.

Other accomplished legal practitioners expected to join Prof Ajayi in the discussions include Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, Prof. Fabian Ajokwu SAN, Mrs. Abimbola Akeredolu SAN, Osaro Eghobamien SAN and Mrs. Christine Sijuwade.

Also, a book titled “New Development in Law and Practise in Nigeria” conceived and published as a practice book, will be presented in honour of Adesina who is also the Pro-Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.

The book examines a wide array of topical and contemporary areas of law and practice, which include but not limited to the following subjects; The Constitution; Taxation; The Legal Profession; Telecommunication; Energy and Power; Capital market, Legal framework for foreign investments; Defamation and The Internet, Money Laundering etc.

The book is expected to make significant contribution to existing and future jurisprudence of the Nigerian Law, more particularly in the emerging areas of focus and attention by legal practitioners and non-legal practitioners in Nigeria.

The book is edited by Prof Adebambo Adewopo of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS).

It parades senior practitioners as contributors. They include Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, Chief Mike Igbokwe SAN, Prof. Earnest Ojukwu SAN, Prof. Yemi Akinseye-George SAN, Prof Paul Idornigie SAN, Dr. Babatunde Ajibade SAN, Mr. Tayo Oyetibo SAN, Mr. Olu Daramola SAN, Mr. Dayo Akinlaja SAN and Mr. Olatunde Adejuyigbe SAN.

Others are Prof. Maxwell Gidado SAN, Prof. Jonathan Aremu, Prof. Abiola Sanni, S.T. Hons SAN, Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, Femi Falana SAN, Granville Abibo SAN. Dr Wale Babalakin SAN, the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, is expected to present the book to the public.
