As politicians gear up for campaigns ahead of the 2019 general elections, a first class traditional ruler in Nasarawa State has advised them to focus on the economy and security.

Chief Luka Baba, the Esu Karu, gave the advice on Sunday in Karu, when the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Silas Sgara, who is aspiring to succeed his boss, Alhaji Tanko Almakura, visited him.

“We want the campaigns to be based on issues; we want political office seekers to discuss the economy, security and other issues relevant to the lives of the people,” he said.

He cautioned politicians against divisive issues and provocative statements that could cause hatred and bitterness and urged them to strive to unite the people toward pursuing common goods that would improve their lives.

While wishing the aspirant the best, he advised him to place the interest of the larger majority above personal consideration.

He also urged him to encourage Nasarawa residents to live in peace irrespective of ethnic, religious and political differences.

At the meetings held with the party officials in Karu, Keffi and Kokona local government areas, Agara said that he was best positioned to sustain the legacies of the Almakura administration.

He promised to play the game by its rules, saying that he was ready to bow to the wishes of the people.
