The 7th day Fidau prayer in memory of the late Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission ( LASIEC ), Mr. Olumide Abayomi Lawal, will be held on Wednesday, 3rd January, 2018.

Mr. Lawal died on Thursday, 28th December, 2017 at the age of 58 years and his remains was buried at the Ikoyi Cemetery, Ikoyi, Lagos on the same day in accordance with Islamic rites.

A hardworking, disciplined and thorough administrator, the late Permanent Secretary served the Commission and the State Government with uncommon passion.

A statement issued by Oladapo Olatunde, Director, Public Affairs, LASIEC, said Mr. Lawal was born on 8th June, 1959. He attended Ansar-ud-Deen Primary School, Alakoro, Lagos  and Ansar –ur- Deen Grammar School, Surulere, Lagos for his primary and secondary education respectively.

He also obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 1982 and a Master’s degree in Political Science in 1988, both from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.

He began his working career with the now defunct Lagos State School Management Board in 1983 before he later joined the Lagos State Polytechnic as an Administrative Officer in 1991.

Mr. Lawal, however, transferred his service to the mainstream of the Lagos State Civil Service as a Senior Personnel Officer ( SPO ) in 1997. He served three successive Heads of Service of the State as Personal Assistant  between 2004 and 2007.

In 2008, he was appointed as Executive Secretary of Igbogbo Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Lagos State where he recorded some landmark achievements which earned him special recognition from the traditional authorities in the area.

Prior to his appointment as appointment as Permanent Secretary  and subsequent deployment to the  Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission in February 2016, Mr. Lawal was the General Manager, Lagos State Residents Registration Agency ( LASRRA ).

He had also previously served as Director of Finance and Administration with the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the State Judiciary.  His marriage to his wife, Olubukola, is blessed with children.

The 7th –day Fidau prayer in memory of the late Permanent Secretary is scheduled for Wednesday, 3rd January, 2018. The venue of the ceremony is No 22, Sobo Arobiodu Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos. The programme will commence at 2.00p.m. prompt.
