A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday, sentenced a 22-year-old man, Ojo Salihu, to three months imprisonment for stealing a tricycle tyre.

Salihu, a resident of Kucubena village, Gwagwa, Abuja, was convicted on a charge of theft.

The judge, Mr Sadiq Abubakar, found him guilty of the charge and sentenced him to three months imprisonment.

Abubakar, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 as fine, saying that the sentence was intended to be a deterrent to others.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Angel Ogbike who resides behind the palace of the Chief of Karmo community, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Dec. 13.

She said that the convict broke into Ogbike’s compound and stole his tricycle’s tyre valued at N17,000 from where it was parked.

“He was, however, caught and handed over to the police. He confessed to the crime during the police investigation.” The prosecutor said.

She said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal code.
