In her efforts towards re-awakening the consciousness of the citizenry to a greener and healthier environment, the General Manager (GM) of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency, (LASPARK), Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola has planted 76 trees along Toll-gate/Iyana Oworo Expressway to celebrate the 76th birthday anniversary of her father, Alhaji L.A. Adebiyi.

The GM, while extolling the virtues of the celebrant noted that commemorating major life events with tree planting is actually giving back to mother earth what have been taken from it in terms of life abundance.

She said “I am happy to celebrate my dad’s birthday with the planting of these 76 trees. It is something that I have desired for a long time, I am happy today that it has come to a reality. More importantly, as the General Manager of LASPARK, I want to walk the walk. As an advocate of greenery I must be seen practicing it.”

Adebiyi-Abiola stressed that it is important for all Lagosians to key into the vision of environmental regeneration and renewal of the state government by marking memorable occasions in their lives with planting of trees.

She noted that as the tree grow, the memories of the occasion also glow, adding that the little gesture will make a significant impact in the lives of the present generation and the generations yet unborn if sustained.

Adebiyi-Abiola remarked that the celebrant had joined the league of Lagosians like Dr. Newton Jibunor, Mrs. Abosede Ramsome-Kuti, and Mrs. Mosunmola Awodipe, who also marked their birthdays with the planting of trees.

She restated that the gesture of tree planting is more rewarding as it will make the environment safer, healthier and beneficial to all.

The celebrant who was overwhelmed with joy stated that “My birthday is not one of the dates I always remember and celebrate, but this year, when the thought to do it differently through the planting of trees was conceived, I never hesitated for once but concluded that giving thanks to God for a life well spent and giving back to mother earth will be the most appropriate way to appreciate Almighty Allah at this time”.

The celebration came to an end with the planting of the 76 trees by the celebrant and other dignitaries at the occasion

Other notable personalities at the occasion were wife of the celebrant Alhaja M.A. Adebiyi, AlhajiOsikoya and the children and grandchildren of the celebrant.
