2 suspected robbers gunned down at Dangote cement factory

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have gunned down two suspected armed robbers during a gun battle at Dangote Cement factory at Ibese.

The two suspects were said to have attacked the factory in company of five others who escaped.

A police source disclosed that the seven armed robbery suspects invaded the factory with dangerous weapons and moved straight to the material section where they attempted to steal some cables.

The policemen posted on duty at the factory were alerted by the company security guards.

The policemen and operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) later stormed the scene and a gun duel ensued. The duel lasted for about 45 minutes.

At the end of the encounter, one of the robbers was shot dead while another was arrested with serious gunshot wounds but died on the way to the hospital.

Other members of the gang escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

Recovered from them are one locally made single barrel gun, 14 expended cartridges, dagger and a house breaking equipment.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed iliyasu commended the gallantry displayed by his men and appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals to report anybody with gunshot wounds to the police.

He also assured residents of the state of adequate security before, during and after the coming Yuletide.
