Prof. Hamid Bobboyi, Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) says 856 assessors were participating in the ongoing National Assessment of Learning Achievement to ensure its success.
Bobboyi stated this on Thursday while monitoring the exercise in some selected schools in the FCT in Abuja.
NAN reports that the objective of the assessment was to use quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the efficiency and quality of performance of Primary and Junior Secondary school pupils and students in Nigeria.
He said the three-day exercise began on Nov. 22 throughout the country.
“Yesterday the students took English, Science and technology. This morning they took Mathematics and in the afternoon we will have Social Studies.
“I think from the report we have been receiving from all over the country it is going on very well.
“We are very confident from the report that we have and with the level of monitoring that has been exhibited. We are confident that the outcome will be very credible.
“To ensure the credibility we made sure that the staff we engaged are those who would not have any vested interest in the outcomes.”
He said about 856 monitors were drawn from the states including NYSC members so as to ensure neutrality.
Bobboyi said that the commission would start analysis of the state of learning in the country in the next two weeks when the results are expected to be out.
He said that though the exercise came with few challenges, the commission was able to manage as not to affect the credibility of the exercise. 1,080 primary schools and 432 junior secondary schools constituted the school samples.

Bobboyi had earlier said that a simple random sampling technique was used to select six local government education authorities (LGEA) in each of the 36 states and the FCT.
He said each LGEA, five primary schools and five junior secondary schools comprising two urban, two rural and one private school would participate in the exercise.
“20 pupils each from Primary 5 and 6 and 20 pupils each from JS 2 and 3 from the selected schools will write the assessment.”
The scribe said that the headteachers of the sampled schools and teachers of the selected Primary 5 and 6 classes would also participate.
Some schools visited during the monitoring exercise included Government Junior Secondary School, Jabi and Pilot Science Nursery and Primary School, Wuse Zone 5.
