Enugu State Government has released the first tranche of N5 million for development projects in each community in the state, the Chairman of the state Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzo, has said.
Agubuzo made this known while briefing newsmen at the end of a joint meeting of royal fathers, town union presidents and the State Executive Council in Enugu on Wednesday.
Ugwuanyi had earmarked N1o million for each community to be utilized for any project of their choice.
Agubuzo expressed delight that the governor had fulfilled the promise he made to the people.
“This special development has never happened in Enugu State since its creation.”
He explained that the governor’s decision was that every community would decide the project it would want to execute with the money.
The monarch said that a dedicated bank account would be opened for the project with the traditional ruler and the president-general of each community as signatories.
“The governor has made available the sum of N5 million for every community in Enugu State for a development project of their choice.
“This is a special development that has never happened in Enugu State because this money will be given to the community leaders and they will decide on what to do with it,’’ he said.
Also speaking, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Town Unions, Chief Paulinus Eze, described the release of the fund as a “pleasant surprise”
According to him, the governor has wiped away the tears of many communities that have never experienced any developmental project.
Eze maintained that the grassroots development programme would ensure that government presence in the 400 communities in the state.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of Visit Every Community (VEC), Dr Eric Oluedo, said that the new policy was the fallout of the visit his agency embarked in all the communities in the state.
Oluedo disclosed that the state government earmarked N10 million for development projects in every community to be identified and executed by the community.
He, however, said that VEC would monitor the projects strictly, to ensure compliance, adding that the approval of the funds passed through process.
The director-general also thanked the governor for fulfilling the promise he made to the people of the state last year.
