African champions Cameroon secured a 2-2 draw away to Zambia in their final World Cup qualifier thanks to a late goal from defender Yaya Banana.

Both teams were hoping to end the campaign on a high, having failed to qualify for Russia 2018 from Group B.

Patson Daka put Zambia in front in the 26th minute, picking up a through-ball from Fashion Sakala to strike into the bottom right corner.

Five minutes later Andre Zambo Anguissa equalised from outside the box.

After the break, Zambia’s Patson Daka turned goal-maker, laying on a pass to Brian Mwila who struck into the centre of the net to make it 2-1 to the hosts after 64 minutes.

Enock Mwepu and Fashion Sakala both had chances to take the game out of Cameroon’s reach and Daka almost got his second of the game, hitting the bar with a header late on.

The Indomitable Lions withstood the Zambian pressure and scored an unlikely equaliser in stoppage time.

Yaya Banana’s header from a 91st minute corner gave Cameroon the draw to leave them third in Group B, a point behind Zambia and seven points adrift of group winners Nigeria who drew 1-1 in Algeria on Friday night.
