The National President of Private Medical Laboratory Proprietors Association of Nigeria (PMLPAN), Mr Ironkwe Okechukwu has called on governments to address the issue of multiple taxations on its members.

The President made the call on Saturday in Kano during the inauguration of members of the association and a sensitisation workshop.

“The huge amount of tax collected by the state and federal governments is disturbing because, at the end of the day, our members may take little or nothing to take care of their facilities and deliver services effectively”, he said.

Okechukwu called on the members of the association to exhibit professionalism in discharging their services and ensure they minimise incidents of medical errors.

He said the sensitisation workshop for its members was aimed at ensuring they carry out their service accurately in order to produce the correct test results.

According to him, such can contribute towards improving the Nigeria’s health sector.

He said the association was focusing its attention on fighting quacks and the prevalence of unregistered laboratories.
