The Police at the Ikoyi Division, Ikoyi of the Lagos State Police Command, Lagos, Nigeria have arrested a Ghanaian housemaid, Anna Sunday, 27, for allegedly conniving with others still at large to steal her employer’s jewelries valued at N800,000 and sold them off property to Mr Femi Olabode.
The incident, according to the Police occurred at 5A Ibrahim Odofin Estate, Agungi, Lekki, Lagos where the complainant resides.
Police alleged that the complainant reported to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ikoyi Division, SP Tijani Mustapha that he employed his housemaid to be taking care of his aged mother living at Osborne Foreshore, Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to the police, the complainant stated that on the day of the incident, his housemaid stole the spare key of his wife bedroom at Lekki, Lagos and used it to open her bedroom to steal her jewelries worth N350,000 and wrist watches valued at N450,000 and escaped to sell them off.
A police source said that following the report, Mustapha directed a team led by Tope Ijatuyi to fish out the maid anywhere she may be and the Police arrested her at a hideout following a tip off and took her to the Station.
During investigation, according to the Police, the maid allegedly confessed to the crime that the two men she met inside a
cab she boarded on her way to Obalende from Ikoyi to purchase shampoo commanded her to steal the jewelries for them.
But the police described her claims as false and arraigned her before an Igbosere Magistrates Court on a two-count charge of felony to wit, stealing.
Police counsel, Friday Mameh informed the court in charge No P/63/2017 that the accused betrayed the trust reposed in her by her employer and connived with others to steal his properties.
Mameh said the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and her Counsel, Gani Oriarebhagbe urged the court to admit the defendant to bail on the most liberal terms with a promise that she would not jump bail.
Magistrate P.A Adekomaiya granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 13 November, 2017 for mention.
Adekomaiya ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Prison, pending when she is a able to fulfill the bail conditions.
