The management of Renolds Construction Company (RCC), said that the federal government is owing it about N7 billion for the job it has done so far on the construction of the Benin-Auchi dual carriage road.

The Site Engineer of RCC, Sepic Igor, disclosed this Monday when he appeared at plenary session of the Edo State House of Assembly, in Benin City.

The firm is handling the construction of the Benin-Ehor section of the dualisation of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi-Okpella-Okene highway.

The House had last month summoned the management of the firms handling various sections of the road over the slow pace of works on the road.

The construction firms are RCC, Dantata and Sawoe and Morthercat.

Igor, while responding to questions from the lawmakers, disclosed that the contract sum of the section of the road awarded to his firm was N35.5 billion and that about 31 percent of the job has been done so far.

He pointed out that the firm was awarded 14 Kilometres and that the job has been done in accordance with the design and specification of the contract.

Igor also explained that in the last one month the road was in very bad condition but with the commitment of the management and staff to duty the road is now motorable.

According to him, the contract for the award was advertised on December 12, 2012, and works commenced on December 24, 2012 while completion date is December 22, 2018.

He said the contract has 36 months completion duration, representing 36 months pre-addendum and 36 post- addendum.

In his reaction, the Speaker of the House, Kabiru Adjoto, noted that the company was not doing enough to improve on the condition of the road.

Adjoto who commended the Site Engineer for honoring the House invitation, urged the firm to do all that it could to finish its contract on record time.

The Speaker however threatened to charge the management Dantata and Sawoe and Mothercat for contempt of the legislature if they failed to appear on October 23.

“Contempt of the legislature is a very serious crime under our law. It a very serious crime punishable under our law. We invited three companies and for the second time now Dantata and Sawoe and Mothercat refused to show up.

“The law is clear and unambiguous. For the very last time we asks them to appear again on October 23, 2017 at 10 am at plenary and if by that day, Dantataand Sawoe and Mothercat refuses to appear before Edo people, the law will take its course and we shall apply it to the latter,” Adjoto threatened.
